U. Alabama dean who said American flag represents racism gets massive payday

University of Alabama’s new dean of students resigned Sept. 4 after controversial tweets regarding race and the American flag surfaced.

Details of the recently released resignation agreement reveal that the school agreed to pay Jamie Riley almost $350,000 to step down.

The University of Alabama agreed to pay its newly appointed dean of students nearly $350,000 after he resigned over several tweets.

The tweets in question, on which Campus Reform reported in September, were from 2016 and 2017 and expressed anti-American sentiments. The author of those tweets, Jamie Riley, served as assistant vice president and dean of students when Breitbart first reported on the tweets from several years ago. According to the universityRiley “resigned his position” via “mutual agreement.”

AL.com filed an open records request seeking Riley’s separation agreement following his resignation. The news outlet recently published the document it received in response to that request. The document shows Riley’s “mutual agreement” included a $346,200 severance package, including $127,450 in “compensatory damages” in addition to lost wages.

The resignation agreement included a clause barring either party from disclosing the details of the severance package or any other details of the agreement, but the signed document is a matter of public record.

Riley had only held his position for seven months before his resignation. His annual salary was $175,000.

The agreement also reveals that Riley will never again be eligible for a job anywhere within the University of Alabama system.

Riley signed his resignation on Sept. 4, the same day that Breitbart published several of his controversial tweets, one of which insisted that “The [American] flag represents a systemic history of racism.”

”I’m baffled about how the 1st thing white people say is, ‘That’s not racist!’ when they can’t even experience racism? You have 0 opinion!” another one of Riley’s tweets read.
