Leftist comedian Bill Maher calls BDS movement a 'bullsh*t purity test' by people who 'slept through history' (VIDEO)

Leftist comedian Bill Maher blasted the BDS movement as a "bullsh*t purity test."

The BDS movement has become common on college campuses throughout the U.S., as Campus Reform has documented.

Maher said the people who advocate for the movement "slept through history class."

Liberal comedian Bill Maher, who occasionally breaks with the progressive wing of the Democrat party, such as on ”free college,” political correctness, cultural appropriation, and ”trigger warnings,”  did so once more Friday night on his HBO show, Real Time with Bill Maher, by saying that the anti-Israel Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions movement, otherwise known as the BDS movement is  ”bullsh*t purity test” by people who do “slept through history class.”

The BDS movement, which has become a staple on college campuses throughout the country, encourages colleges to completely sever any ties they might have with Israel or Israel-linked entities because of Israel’s perceived aggression toward Palestinians. But, as Maher noted Friday on his show, the centuries-old controversy between the Jewish people and the Palestinians is “not a one-way street here.”

At another point in the segment, the comedian took it one step further, calling the BDS movement a “bullshit purity test.”

”BDS is a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class,” Maher said. “It’s predicated on this notion- I think it’s very shallow thinking - that the Jews in Israel, mostly white and the Palestinians are browner so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas, and the suicide bombings, and the rockets, and how many wars...”

”Somehow this side never gets presented in the American media. It’s very odd,” the liberal comedian continued.

Maher then went on to quote BDS movement co-founder Omar Barghouti who once said that “no Palestinian, rational Palestinian, not a sell-out Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.” Maher further noted that countries such as Saudi Arabia don’t even allow Jews into their country at all while other Middle East countries’ Jewish populations have dwindled in recent decades, in some cases to fewer than 100.

”And Congresswoman Omar has said things like ‘it’s all about the Benjamins,’ ‘Israel has hypnotized the world,’ ‘may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil-doings of Israel.’ She apologized for it but it’s out there,” Maher said.

”I can see why they don’t get a hero’s welcome,” he continued, referring to Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), both of whom were recently barred from traveling to Israel. Since the segment on Friday, Tlaib fired back by taking to Twitter, encouraging her followers to boycott Maher’s show.
