UCLA to offer summer course on LGBTQ ‘perspectives in pop music’
The University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) will offer a course this summer entitled “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Perspectives in Pop Music.”
UCLA will offer a course this summer called “Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Queer Perspectives in Pop Music.”
The class, consisting of four hours of lecture and one hour of discussion each week, is described in the official course catalog as a “survey of English-language popular music in 20th century, with focus on lesbians, gay men, and members of other sexual minorities as creators, performers, and audience members.”
To enroll, University of California (UC) students must shell out $1,395. For non-UC students the cost rises to $2,085.
At the time of publication, 55 students had enrolled in the class, taught by Instructor Michell Morris.
Calls made by Campus Reform to Morris for comment were not immediately returned.
The class is offered by UCLA’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies Department.
Related courses taught throughout the year under the department include “Chicana Lesbian Literature” and the “Psychology of the Lesbian Experience.”
