Flier circulating UNR’s campus touts fake Sarah Palin visit, uses sex line for ticket sales
The flier advertised a fake visit by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
The phone number listed on the flier is for a phone sex line.
An unauthorized flier circulating around University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) touts a visit to campus from former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin with the telephone number for tickets connecting to a phone-sex line.
Palin isn’t slated to speak at the university in May, even on the topic of “feminism in modern politics” as the flier promotes.
“The flier in question is a hoax and distasteful,” the university told Campus Reform in a statement. “We are particularly disappointed in the unauthorized use of the university’s logo and the untrue reference to sponsorship by the university and the Associated Students of the University of Nevada [ASUN]. We apology for any misunderstanding this might create.”
UNR’s blue “N” logo adorns the flier, which was not submitted to or reviewed by the university. UNR told Campus Reform that the flier did not appear to have been distributed widely or thoroughly.
The flier also says the event is “Presented by the University of Nevada and ASUN.”
“We didn’t approve them, they’re a joke kind of thing,” a student speaking on behalf of ASUN told Campus Reform.
A QR-code on the flier directs those to an image of what appears to be a man holding a whiteboard reading “I need feminism because if I say I don’t, these harpies will bitch at me for six hours, goddamn.”
“Welcome ladies! Here’s your chance to get busy with hot guys in your area and across the country,” an automated woman’s voice says when the number on the flier is called. The caller is not charged unless additional buttons are pressed when prompted.
