Bernie Sanders hits the Las Vegas jackpot among Nevada students

Sen. Bernie Sanders is poised to cash out big in Las Vegas, and in Nevada overall.
According to a new Chegg-College Pulse poll, the overwhelming majority of Democratic and Democratic-leaning college students in Nevada support Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination. Ahead of Saturday’s presidential caucuses, the College Pulse asked students in the state “regardless of who you may support in the upcoming 2020 presidential election, who would you most like to be the Democratic nominee for President?”

Most student respondents said they support Sanders, with 56 percent favoring the Democratic Socialist. Former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg came in a distant second at 14 percent, while former Vice President Joe Biden captured 11 percent support among the same voting bloc.
Sanders’ support in Nevada is more than 20 points higher than in Iowa or New Hampshire. In each of those states, he polled at 35 percent. That support among Democratic and Democratic-leaning college students in Iowa and New Hampshire translated to a virtual tie between Sanders and Buttigieg in Iowa and a slight advantage for Sanders over Buttigieg in New Hampshire.

Among Democratic and Democratic-leaning college students nationally, Sanders leads with 53 percent support, followed by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 17 percent, and Buttigieg at 11 percent.
The results were released just hours before the Nevada Democratic caucuses, which are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22.
