'Millennials and the Election' panel packed with liberals at UCI
The University of California, Irvine hosted an event Wednesday about “Millennials and the 2016 Election,” with a panel consisting entirely of left wing activists.
The panelists discussed issues such as immigration, police reform, climate change, and more at the nearly two hour event, but according to attendees, there appeared to be only a single viewpoint at the event.
The University of California, Irvine hosted an event Wednesday about “Millennials and the 2016 Election,” with a panel consisting entirely of left wing activists.
The event was part of UC Irvine’s “New Narratives” series, a series of programming dedicated to “conversations on identities and culture.”
According to the official event page, “a panel of activists, journalists, scholars, and artists provide a lively interactive forum that will challenge the audience to explore strategic civic engagement efforts,” and while the specific focus is on millennials will “gain in the 2016 election,” the description does not mention that every single panel member was overtly liberal.
The panel featured Michael Eric Dyson, a Georgetown sociology professor who said that “black people can’t be racist,” and claimed that “President Obama performed Herculean deeds in rescuing the banks, restoring the economy, bailing out the automobile industry, and getting his signature healthcare legislation passed.”
Other guests included Jasiri X, a rapper who preaches Marxist black liberation theology, Lucy Flores, a Democratic Nevada state legislator, and Ashley Yates, a Black Lives Matter Activist and community organizer.
The panelists discussed issues such as immigration, police reform, climate change, and more at the nearly two hour event, but according to attendees, there appeared to be only a single viewpoint at the event.
“The panelists were really one-sided and there was no conservative perspective whatsoever.” UCI student Koosha Azartash told Campus Reform. “All they talked about were left-wing issues and viewpoints.”
Other students told Campus Reform that the event was disappointing because the speakers all had very similar views on important topics.
“I came to UC Irvine to hear both sides of the important issues,” Azartash continued. “I’ve been to several of these events, and every single time it seems like we only hear the liberal side of things. This just reinforces that when liberals talk about diversity, diversity of thought is clearly not included.”
Campus Reform has reached out to the University of California, Irvine and is awaiting comment.
