Professors nationwide flock to join Biden admin as Trump officials are 'canceled'
In the months before his inauguration, Campus Reform reported that President Biden chose countless academics to serve in his administration.
These appointments come as Campus Reform has reported on the overwhelming support of Democratic candidates among college professors.
At the same time as professors are filling the Biden administration, however, Trump administration officials are being canceled at the nation's leading colleges.
In the months leading up to his inauguration, Campus Reform reported that President Joe Biden had chosen several academics to fill key positions in his administration. The key appointments come after studies reported by Campus Reform have shown that professors overwhelmingly donate to Democratic candidates over Republican candidates.
Additionally, multiple analyses conducted by Campus Reform found that faculty, administrators, and staff at several of America’s leading universities donated overwhelmingly in favor of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ former presidential campaign. Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania were just two of the schools whose faculty and staff members’ personal donations were analyzed.
Professors from both Stanford and UPenn have now been appointed to key Biden-Harris administration posts.
Campus Reform recently reported on Biden’s appointment of Stanford University professor Ali Zaidi, who helped to create the Paris Climate Agreement, to serve as Deputy White House Climate Coordinator.
From UPenn, Biden nominated Anthony Blinken as his secretary of state. Blinken previously managed the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, even as there are still unanswered questions related to the school’s acceptance of funds from undisclosed Chinese sources.
Biden also tapped Rachel Levine — Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health and professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine — as Assistant Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services. If confirmed, Levine will be the first openly transgender official to serve in a Senate-confirmed federal government role.
In the past few days, Biden chose Indiana University professor Janet McCabe to serve as deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. McCabe previously served as acting assistant administrator of the Office of Air and Radiation at the EPA under the Obama administration.
Biden also selected two Harvard University Kennedy School of Government professors and former Obama administration officials to serve in key State Department positions — Samantha Power, who served as United States Ambassador to the United Nations, and Wendy Sherman, who served as an Undersecretary of State.
Biden appointed Kristen Clarke — a professor at Howard University — to lead the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. However, Clarke’s unearthed comments in the Harvard Crimson raised serious questions about her objectivity in the role.
As Campus Reform recently reported, Clarke asserted in a letter to the student newspaper that Black people have “superior physical and mental abilities” in comparison to White people.
And University of Michigan professor Robert Hamsphire will serve in Biden’s Department of Transportation, which is likely to be led by former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who was hired by the University of Notre Dame in 2020 to be a faculty fellow. Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten, was hired by Harvard University for a politics fellowship.
But as professors nationwide leave their posts in academia to work in the Biden administration, don’t expect their spots to be filled by former Trump administration officials. Students and professors at some of the nation’s top universities have called on their institutions to ban the hiring of these conservative voices, as Campus Reform has reported.
Campus Reform also reported that several professors and teachers’ union officials were nominated to Biden’s Department of Education review team. Teachers’ unions were also a major source of financial contributions to the Biden-Harris campaign.
