REPORT: Feds scrutinize Ivy League's foreign dealings
Cornell University is under federal investigation for its alleged undisclosed foreign dealings, the Associated Press reported.
President Donald Trump’s Department of Education recently alleged that Cornell University did not alert federal officials about certain dealings with China and Qatar, including contracts and monetary gifts, according to the Associated Press.
“On July 3, Cornell University received a letter from the Department of Education, requesting records related to previously submitted federally required reports. Cornell takes our reporting requirements seriously,” Cornell spokesman John Carberry told Campus Reform. “We are currently reviewing the request and plan to fully cooperate with federal officials in this effort.”

Cornell received millions in funds and contracts from entities located in Qatar from 2012 to 2018, according to the Ithaca Times, which cited the DOE’s database.
Cornell was gifted millions from entities in China, according to the DOE, including from the Chinese tech giant Huawei, which is currently listed by the Trump Administration as a national security threat for its potential to be used by the communist government for espionage.

Chinese relations in American higher education have been extremely controversial as of late. Trump has taken a tougher stance on Chinese international students, threatening the possibility of restricting student visas. In 2018, roughly 350,000 Chinese students were studying at U.S. colleges, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security.
The Trump administration has pushed to close several Confucius Institutes, which serve as Chinese language and culture educational organizations at U.S. colleges. The Department of Defense, however, has stated that these Chinese government-funded college institutions are used as a means to distribute propaganda.
As Campus Reform previously reported, both Georgetown University and Texas A&M University allegedly failed to disclose millions of dollars in donations from Qatar.
