University mascot wipes ass with College Republican handouts

During routine College Republican tabling Tuesday afternoon at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, the university’s tiger mascot grabbed the group’s literature and proceeded to wipe his butt.

Angie Hasek, Chairman of the Minnesota College Republicans, posted a brief description of the event on Facebook.

“Tommie Mascot just wiped his rear with some GOP lit. I wouldn't have expected someone at UST to stoop to that level.”

“Tolerance at its finest,” Hasek said.

According to the university’s website, the Tommie Mascot Team consists of up to six undergraduate students with the goal of “foster[ing] school spirit in a positive and professional manner.”

“The UST Mascot Team members demonstrate school spirit, a positive attitude and the ability to act responsibly while serving as Tommie mascot or escort,” the website states.

A form to request an appearance by Tommie requests information such as the date, time, and location of the requested event as well as “[d]etails of requested performance” and whether there are “any special circumstances regarding this appearance?”

In an interview with Campus Reform, Hasek said that “[s]chools are supposed to be a place where all views are accepted—but that was not the case here.”

“I’d be appalled if they did this to the literature of a Democrat candidate,” she said.

When asked what she thinks the university should do about the offensive gesture Hasek told Campus Reform “all we want is a simple apology.”

The literature used to clean the mascot’s backside was campaign material for Andrew Brown, a candidate for state representative and student at St. Thomas University.

The University of St. Thomas did not respond to Campus Reform’s request for comment in time for publication.
