On the first day of Supreme Court Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings, conservative women from across the nation gathered at a prayer event in Washington, D.C. to show their support.
Campus Reform spoke with women who stand behind Barrett to hear why they feel she should be the next woman on the Supreme Court.
“I think she is a symbol of women’s empowerment,” said one woman.
Many of the women cited Barrett’s achievements in the workforce while having seven children, her Christian values, and her commitment to upholding the constitution.
President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee continues to face backlash from the left over fears that she will undo the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s legacy. This group of conservative women pushed back on the narrative that supporting Barrett makes them anti-woman.
One woman told Campus Reform, “Feminism is about supporting women no matter what their views are.”
“Just because a woman doesn’t fit with the idea of the current left doesn’t necessarily mean they are anti-woman,” said another. “Women believe all sorts of things.”
She continued, “Women are pro-life, women can be conservative, women can have very religious values, and it’s absurd to think otherwise.”
The group supporting Barrett was also met with demonstrators protesting the Supreme Court nominee.
“I think it’s anti-woman to be protesting a woman,” said another student. “I mean, we should be celebrating her.”
“People who admired the late Ginsburg should admire her as well, despite your political beliefs, just the fact that she is standing up as a woman and breaking the ranks,” said another woman.
The group expressed their desire to show Barrett support through prayer and love amid the attacks she is currently fielding, and will continue to receive, during the confirmation process.
“We’re out here today making sure our voice is heard, and we have a Supreme Court Justice that fights for all women,” said one woman.
