VIDEO: University removes wrecking ball sculpture after students ride it naked like Miley Cyrus
Hundreds of students protested at Michigan’s Grand Valley State University on Tuesday night after administrators removed an 18-year old swinging sculpture that resembled a wrecking ball.
Officials apparently made the decision after videos and photos emerged of students riding it naked in a parody of a recently released music video in which pop-star Miley Cyrus swings nude on a giant swinging wrecking ball.
The sculpture, technically called a “bifilar pendulum,” was built by artist Dale Eldred in 1973 and has now been placed in storage, according to the Detroit Free Press.
"Hopefully the pendulum can be reinstalled at that location or we can find another suitable location on campus so people can enjoy it as a piece of art and stay safe," the university said, according to a statement.
In the meantime a parody account on twitter has emerged called simply @GVSUWreckingBall
"I don't blame Miley for getting our ball taken away, I thank her for making us famous ;)" @GVSUWreckingBall tweeted on Tuesday.
