With BDS on the rise, College Republicans decide it's time to take a stand
The resolution passed unanimously at the committee’s annual meeting.
The resolution prohibits the CRNC from doing business with organizations and contractors that support BDS.
The College Republicans National Committee has passed a resolution condemning the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
The “College Republicans Anti-Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Resolution” passed unanimously at the CRNC National Board Meeting earlier in November. It prohibits the group from doing business with any organization or contractor that supports the BDS movement.
Judah Waxelbaum, the author of the resolution, states that the BDS campaign “seeks to exclude the State of Israel and the Israeli people from the economic, cultural, and academic life from the rest of the world.”
Waxelbaum says in the resolution that many proponents of BDS deny the right for Jewish people to have “national self-determination.”

Touching on the academic side of the BDS campaign, he states that the movement often leads to the “intimidation and harassment” of students who are Jewish as well as those who support Israel. The passed resolution also affirms that the CRNC is supportive of Israel and the Jewish community as a whole who face anti-Semitic hatred.
Waxelbaum told Campus Reform that he wrote the resolution because of how prevalent BDS has become.
“BDS has kind of reared its ugly face all over the United States and quite frankly the world recently. So I thought the resolution was well-timed and topical since we were heading into our fall board,” Waxelbaum said. “BDS has also become a big topic of debate at Arizona State University where I attend.”
Waxelbaum also said that he’s been “trying to make a point” about how he believes that people cannot “boycott the Jewish state, without boycotting the Jewish people.” In addition to opposing the movement as a whole, the resolution prohibits the CRNC from doing business with any organization or contractor that supports the BDS movement.
As of right now, the CRNC does not do any business with organizations or contractors that support the BDS movement, a CRNC spokesman told Campus Reform. The CRNC national chairman, Chandler Thorton, also told Campus Reform that the resolution champions the United States’ strong relationship with Israel, and sends a firm message against BDS.

”The CRNC sent a strong message that College Republicans across America stand firmly against the global BDS campaign that seeks to discredit Israel while exploiting anti-Semitism on college campuses,” Thornton said.
