LA college offering class on 'RuPaul's Drag Race'

The title of the class will be "Reading RuPaul: Camp Culture, Gender Insubordination, and the Politics of Performance"

It will look at the reality TV show from a feminist and gay perspective

A college in Los Angeles is offering a course on 'RuPaul's Drag Race,' a reality television show which aims to find America's "next drag superstar."

The class at Occidental College, "Reading RuPaul: Camp Culture, Gender Insubordination, and the Politics of Performance," will study the show from a feminist and gay point of view, according to an article in Dallas Voice, an LGBT news source.

"While RuPaul’s show brings the art of drag performance and gay subculture issues to a wide audience, the course will consider how it addresses the history of drag and U.S. gay culture, as well as a broad range of issues such as transgender identity, HIV/AIDS, bullying and violence, racial identity, gender identity, body size, and LGBT political activism," the course description states.

Coursework will involve watching episodes of the show and reading RuPaul's recent book, Workin’ It, according to an article in Out.com.
