Public university publishes guide to its gender neutral restrooms
USC's restrooms were gender-specific until last year.
The guide distinguishes between gender neutral and "single stall, gendered" facilities.
Booker T. Washington Auditorium and the university's Law Center are now both gender-neutral.
Six students at the University of South Carolina (USC) created a Gender Neutral Resource Guide that is on display at the university’s Multicultural Student Affairs website.
The guide offers a color-coded map of the public restrooms on the main campus and indicates which buildings contain restrooms that are “single stall, gendered” or are gender neutral.

According to the map, six campus buildings now have gender neutral restrooms, including the Booker T. Washington Auditorium and the university's Law Center.
USC’s restrooms were gender specific until sometime last year when women’s and gender studies major Greg Pieczynski petitioned for a gender neutral restroom in his dorm, West Quad. West Quad is now one of two university buildings with both gender neutral restrooms and "single stall, gendered" accommodations, according to the map.
Pieczynski and several other co-creators of the restroom map have since graduated.
Current students on campus are more concerned with the physical restroom space; according to them, many USC restrooms are worn down.
“It's already uncomfortable enough as it is... the bathrooms at USC are awkward enough already. Some of the restrooms don't even have dividers, so I don't think it would make much of a difference who uses the restrooms, whatever gender they identify with,” junior Mitchell Stegall, a member of the Gamecock Conservatives, told Campus Reform.
USC did not return a request for comment.
